Interiors

Might be doing some many more of these soon. Stay tuned.

Personas

I whipped up these three Personas for a project recently to bring to life three possible target customers for a home renovation company. I had only a few hours to bring the three complex personalities to life in a very limited space.

'End of the Nightmare' Ballpoint Pen on Arches

I just did a quick piece for an art show here in Tampa, its all ballpoint pen and fairly large 22x30". The show had a theme of this real life superhero that has existed since the beginning of mankind 'Mon Protectuer'. There apparently have been artistic representations of this character throughout all art periods. So the curator of the show had all these different artists re-create some of this work. I worked in a comic-book style and my piece represents a scene I read about where a journalist was captured during Vietnam and was being tortured for days before this mystery man busted in, saved him and then disappeared forever. My piece is called 'End of the Nightmare' and, as you can see, it is a soldier busting through a wall but all around him are all these little nightmares that the journalist was having.

LOMO project has begun.

I'm starting a new (old) project today. I have dug my old Lomo LC-A outta my photo case and bought three rolls of color 35mm film. Let's see what happens.

ReSkates Deck #1 the process

After deciding on the design, made a template, traced it on both sides of the deck and cut it out with a jigsaw. Sanded the rails. Sorry no pics for this.

For future ReSKates I will likely keep the original look of the worn out bottom as is instead of completely painting over and just add a design element to freshen it up.

Ready.

ReSkates a new project!

So, a few months ago there was an art show at the Bricks in Ybor. The theme was 'Not Playing with a Full Deck' and consisted of art on used or broken skateboards. The show was fun and I liked my piece enough. It didn't sell (not surprising since I foolishly overpriced it) so it has hung on my wall ever since.
The other day I was leaning back and kind of looking at that deck and I wondered, "could I give that deck another life on the road?" It had enough usable wood left, only the very ends were thrashed. So, I took it down, laid out a template surfboard style and started and finished this newest project.

And ReSkates is born.

So here's the plan. Collect decks left at the Skatepark and any that have enough meat on them will be re-shaped and given new art and re-sold. ReSkates(name pending approval).

My first Deck...lead in to my newest project.

So, a few years ago I started and completed my first skateboard. It was a long board approx 48" long and looking like a Gerry Lopez surfboard. A very nice friend of Dave's wrote a very nice little blurb about it (photos by David K. Browning).
